80 Solo Items
1. Kuchipudi dance, is one of the
six major dance forms in India. Founded by "Siddendra Yogi" in the 16th Century, in a
village called "Kuchipudi" on the banks of river Krishna in Andhra Pradesh. It was
originally a dance drama and has also evolved into a solo dance during the last century.
With the main objective of reviving and revitalising the pride of Indians at large and
Telugus in particular, in its pristine purity, Kuchipudi Art Academy was started at
Hyderabad in the year 1980. It was a long felt need that this dance form should find an
abode in the Capital of Telugus. Smt. Sobha Naidu, easily the greatest exponent of this
dance form and whose name inspires and evokes the happiest responses to everyone of her
performances has been the Principal & Director of the Dance School.
2. Within a short period, the
Academy has come to be recognised as the premier Institution, in the capital of Andhra
Pradesh. Another Branch of the School is stated at Rajahmundry. Both Schools together have
a total student enrolment of 130. In recognition of eminent services rendered by the
Academy, the Government of India have sanctioned a recurring grant for running the Dance
School and also upgraded the Academy as one of the premier Art Academies in the
country. 
3. Since its inception more then
1500 students has their training in Kuchipudi Art Academy and training is being imported free
of charge to those who are poor and talented. Smt. Sobha Naidu's performance in U.S.S.R. on the
occasion of Festival of India made two Russian girls came all the way from Russia to learn
Kuchipudi dance. Academy also trained one German girl. Both of them have been trained in
last two years. Some of the students started institutions of their own in different
countries and States. Besides Dance, Academy holds classes for Music and theory of
Kuchipudi. A diploma of "Natya Visharada" is given to the trainee on completion of
dance course. The aim of Academy is propagation of Kuchipudi dance.
4. Academy has produced fifteen
ballets to its credit. They are (1) Sri Krishna Parijatham (2) Chandalika (3) Bhama
Kalapam (4) Menaka Viswamitra (5) Vipranarayana (6) Kalyana Srinivasam (7) Sri Krishnah
Saranam Mama (8)Sarvam Saimayam(9) Vijayostu Te Nari (10) Ksheerasaagaramadhanam (11) Jagadaananda Kaaraka
(12) Girija Kalyaanam (Nritya Nivali to Ghantasala) (13) Swami Vivekananda (14) Sambhavami Yuge Yuge (15) Nava Rasa Nata Bhamini out of
which the last eleven were choreographed by Smt. Sobha Naidu. In addition more than 80
'Solo' items are also produced.
5. The academy has residential
accommodation for students coming from outside the State and Country. Training being
imparted to students teaching music class.
